 Dear friends,
I am glad to greet all of you in our World Wide Club of Petersburgers, uniting people of various professions and interests: all those, to whom the culture and fate of our great city is important.
The Club's activities are varied and intense: creative meetings of the Club's members are held weekly. The most important events in the life of our city and Russia as a whole are discussed there, including art exhibits and presentations of books written by well-known St. Petersburgers. The Club takes an active part in activities conducted by the City Administration and by Consulates General. It organizes international conferences, festivals and projects, acts as a social expert in programs dedicated to the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg. We publish the almanacs "To You, St. Petersburg!" and "St. Petersburg Evenings". We have also begun the publication of a 300-volume edition telling the readers about outstanding citizens of St. Petersburg.
This year the Club has marked its 10th anniversary. It is remarkable that such a community, whose members enjoy associating with each other, has existed for ten years already. Representatives of many cities of the world, such as St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tallinn, New York and Paris, find themselves attracted to our Club.
Our strongest driving force is the great love we feel for our native city. This love is accepted by us with all the cares, alarms and hopes it brings with it: we take it as a whole. It is a feeling of a great city founded in a place where cities are not built, a city erected on a swamp, a city whose end has been foretold, a city that at any moment may sink below the water sufrace if we do not take proper care of it. The moving love of St. Petersburg's inhabitants towards their city not only keeps it afloat, but also makes it one of the most beautiful cities of the world.
Mikhail Piotrovsky,
President of World Wide Club of Petersburgers.
